Etienne BAUDET (Blois 1638 - Paris 1711) "Vue d'une campagne avec personnages" Original etching from a subject by Nicolas Poussin (1594 - 1665) drawn by Pierre Monier (1641 - 1703), part of a series of four engraved in 1684. Beautiful copy in the third state of four, according to Weigert, which can be traced back to after 1694, the year in which Baudet was assigned accommodation in the Galeries du Louvre which appears from his address, before the appearance of Chereau's name as a printer , printed on laid paper bearing an undeciphered watermark, with good margins beyond the imprint of the plate, verie areas of small foxing points at the edges and the trace of a central vertical fold visible mainly on the verso, overall in excellent general condition of storage. Poussin's original painting, a 74x103cm oil on canvas dating from around 1648, is now preserved in the National Gallery in London, critics have put forward the hypothesis that it may represent a view of the Tempe valley in Thessaly in Greece, a place which according to the Greek poets was among the most loved by Apollo and the Muses. Bibliography: Andresen “Nicolaus Poussin” Leipzig 1863 pag.114 n ° 445. LeBlanc "Manuel ..."
